How long does a ripped off toenail hurt?
You may have some swelling, colour changes, and bloody crusting on or around the wound for 2 or 3 days. This is normal. Taking good care of your wound at home will help it heal quickly and reduce your chance of infection. The wound should heal within a few weeks.
Does a ripped toenail hurt?
It can be very painful to tear or rip your nail from the nail bed. A nail may separate from the nail bed (detach) for many reasons, including: Injuries. Separation caused by injury is common in people who have long fingernails.

To relieve pain from an injury to the nail, try the following:
- Apply ice and elevate the injured nail area as soon as possible after the injury.
- Trim a torn or detached nail, and tape the nail in place.
- Try to drain blood from under the nail.
Can a broken toenail heal itself?

How do you treat a ripped toenail?
Trim off the detached part of a large tear, or leave the nail alone.
- Cover the nail with tape or an adhesive bandage until the nail has grown out enough to protect the finger or toe.
- If you trim off the detached nail, you will have less worry about the nail catching and tearing.
How do you heal a broken toenail fast?
Coat the area with antibiotic ointment and top with a nonstick bandage. Change the bandage every day and whenever it gets wet. (If any part gets stuck, soak it under warm running water until it slips off.) For the first couple of days, ease any pain and swelling by propping up your foot.

What happens if you leave blood under your nail?
If left untreated, a simple subungual hematoma typically grows out with the lengthening nail plate and resolves on its own, although sometimes subungual hematomas can result in your nail falling off (onycholysis). Until the nail grows out, however, you can expect weeks to months of blue-black discoloration.
Do nails heal when cracked?
Outlook. Most split nails will heal with time as your nails grow out. If you’re experiencing frequent splitting, avoid moisture on your nails and consider using a nail hardening solution. If your split nails are causing you frequent discomfort, consult with your doctor about treatment options.
Why are nail injuries so painful?
